As a kid Scott Slusher’s dad handed him a film camera. He would play with the camera as he watched his dad capture everything surrounding them. In those moments, Scott didn’t know it, but a seed was being planted.
Years later in 2003, Scott picked up the camera and started playing again. He would observe his mentors and learn on set, taking it all in through the lens. Quickly that seed sprouted into Scott Slusher Photography.
Scott is from Stillwater, Oklahoma and doesn’t forget where he comes from. You can often find him wearing his signature neckerchief. It’s unintentionally a mark of his two interests—western grit and fashion.
Yup, that’s right this cowboy has a fashion degree. I use my knowledge in fashion design as a fashion photographer. I get that it’s not just about a piece of clothing, but how it’s an extension of personal style. I work to capture the moments where style and life come together to create a feeling that’s significant.
While at design school, Scott met his wife Lisa, who is a stylist. Together they have a son, State, who makes everything look better. As a family they enjoy life in Dallas and working together on photo-shoots.
So about that western grit. In addition to fashion photography, Scott delivers an authentic element to his craft through a modern day take on western lifestyle. I was at my studio and needed something new to get my creative ideas going. I called up a buddy who was coybowying at a ranch and asked if I could come out and take pictures for a week. So I borrowed a rig, a horse and saddle and set out. I came back and showed my studio mates what I captured and they flipped. Those images went on to win awards and set Scott down a trail of success.
Although, the stories he tells through photography vary, his dedication to finding beauty and originality in everything he does is constant.
